Cemetery
The Jewish War Veterans of Canada, Toronto Region, announces that they
have made arrangements with Bethesda Memorial Gardens to purchase a section of their
cemetery for the exclusive use of Jewish War Veterans and their spouses.
Over the years, Jewish war veterans have been laid to rest at various cemeteries
throughout the Toronto area. The only cemetery that was available to veterans was sold out
many years ago and was part of the Canadian Legion.
It was discovered that there are many Jewish veterans not affiliated with any synagogue or
other organization that has burial rights. In the event of the death of these veterans,
they are interred in the community section of the cemetery. The cost of the burial plot
sold to the family is at current market prices.
We have made arrangements for over 300 plots. In the event that the need for more plots
arises, we have the possibility of expanding to another 300 plots in our section.
We have also made arrangements with Steeles Memorial Chapel to pre-arrange funerals for
our members. The funeral consists of everything that is required for a Jewish funeral,
including the casket. We also have a memorial headstone included in our complete package.
We all know that when the death of a loved one occurs, we are asked to make decisions at a
time when our ability to think clearly is at its lowest point. We make expensive
commitments that are at a later date very difficult to justify. Members of Jewish War
Veterans of Canada have the opportunity to spare their families from making agonizing
decisions at the worst times in their lives. We can pre-arrange the entire package at a
cost that is far lower than any other individual arrangement. Moreover, that cost can be
paid over a period of time. With pre-payment, all funds are government secured and the
price of the funeral does not change.
To take advantage of the cemetery proposal, a veteran must be a member in good standing of
our organization It is also understood that the veteran will have the opportunity to
reserve a plot for their spouse next to them.
